Tasting Notes

  • Nose – Stone fruit with warm brown butter and a soft herbal note.

  • Palate – A little medicinal up front, followed by honey, all spice, and oak.

  • Finish – Medium, with leather and tobacco coming through.

Food Pairing – Mushroom Risotto

  • When Katie and I tried this pour, we were blown away by how rich and complex it was. That immediately made us want a food pairing with the same depth. My brother happened to be making mushroom risotto for Sunday dinner, so we decided to try the Super Freak with the risotto — and surprisingly, the pairing worked really well. Both are rich and savory, and the earthy risotto pulled out the herbal and tobacco notes in the whiskey while the creaminess helped bring forward the honey, all spice, and brown-butter notes.

Nav and Katie’s Thoughts

  • If you read my post about Preservation Distillery from BBR6, then you already know it was one of the highlights of the entire week. It was one of my first times really exploring their lineup, and I was blown away by what they had sitting in their inventory. This Super Freak is my first official bottle from Preservation, and it’s an absolute banger. The BBR team crushed this pick.

Katie and I both really enjoyed this pour, and it ended up being the perfect way for us to close out the first 12 days of the Advent Calendar. Rich, layered, and memorable — exactly what you want at the halfway mark.
