Tasting Notes
Nose – Orange liqueur, cherry, and a gentle cinnamon note.
Palate – Honey, stone fruit, and baking spice.
Finish – Medium finish with light spice and a graham-cracker sweetness.
Food Pairing – Pumpkin Roll
What Katie and I liked about this pairing is how naturally the bourbon’s sweetness and spice matched the flavor profile of pumpkin roll — the creamy filling, warm spices, and soft, sweet cake. The honey and stone fruit blended in smoothly with the dessert’s sweetness, and the baking spice on the palate picked up the cinnamon and nutmeg in the cake without overpowering anything. The graham-cracker note on the finish added a light, toasty layer that mirrored the cake’s flavor and texture.
Nav and Katie’s Thoughts
When I heard that Heaven Hill was releasing an everyday Old Fitz to sit alongside the decanter series, I was skeptical. I haven’t had the chance to try many of the limited releases, but everything I’ve read over the years puts them in extremely high regard. After we finally sat down and tasted this one, Katie and I both felt the same way — it really does hit the mark for an everyday bourbon you’d be happy to grab off the shelf. It’s easy to drink, approachable, and worth the price. Overall, we enjoyed how this bourbon makes sense with dessert but also drinks really well on its own.
