Tasting Notes

  • Nose – Nutty, Herbal, Apricot.

  • Palate – Molasses sweetness with a touch allspice.

  • Finish – Light, with honey and oak.

Food Pairing – Pork Belly with Honey Glaze

  • This pour pushed us toward something savory with a little richness, especially since Katie and I both felt it had a balanced but lighter overall profile. Smoked pork belly with a light honey glaze ended up being a really good fit. The fat and smoke worked well with the nutty, herbal notes in the whiskey, and the touch of honey picked up the lighter sweetness on the finish without overpowering anything.

  • River City Whiskey has been putting out some seriously impressive bottles, and this one is another great example. Founded by Da’Mon Brown and Ricky Rice, they’ve shown a real knack for picking barrels that just work. This 9-year Wild Turkey–sourced bourbon delivers those classic Turkey notes you expect, but the double-barreling adds an extra layer of depth and complexity. Katie and I both really liked how balanced this pour is. It’s rich enough to stay interesting without ever feeling heavy or overwhelming. Katie even mentioned it’s the kind of bottle that works just as well for someone new to bourbon as it does for a seasoned drinker—which pretty much sums it up.
