Tasting Notes
Nose – Cherry, almonds, toasted oak.
Palate – Light, buttery, and nutty with hint of vanilla.
Finish – Short, with mint, leather, and black pepper.
Food Pairing – Caramel Popcorn
This pairing was kind of a no-brainer. The caramel sweetness lined up perfectly with the vanilla and nutty notes on the palate, and the light, buttery texture matched how easy this pour drinks. What really surprised us was how the mint and black pepper on the finish kept the popcorn from feeling too sweet.
Nav and Katie’s Thoughts
For Day 16, I wanted to highlight Wild Turkey since yesterday’s pour was a 9-year Wild Turkey–sourced bourbon that had been double-barreled. I thought it would be interesting to put them side by side and see how they compared, especially with the one-year age difference and the gap in proof. Even with those differences, there were still some familiar Wild Turkey characteristics showing up in both pours. Overall, Katie and I both enjoyed this one, even though it drank lighter than we expected for an 8-year bourbon. It’s definitely a bottle worth picking up at $50.
